wake up, wake up, wake up
it appears the bubonic plague has struck again. this time, al-Qaeda terrorists.
the "black death" hasn't been eradicated by any means. we've even had a couple of cases in the U.S. every year. but for 40 to die at one training camp?
several commenters to the above linked article seem to think it is a well performed and successful CIA operation. idiots.
what could it be? sanitation and lack of sufficient modern medical treatment perhaps?
or what is most frightening: "with Pneumonic Plague, airborne bacteria spread like flu". does an airborne plague outbreak in a terror cell training center bother anyone else? are they working on, or training with this bacteria in preparation of a new offensive in the islamofascist war on civilization?
stay tuned. hopefully it's just the hand of the cosmic joker being revealed, and not something much darker and far more sinister.
update update: this just in 1/20/09... it looks like the sun pulled the above mentioned article, and any reference to it. but there are now several other news sources that are talking about it. i'll just reference the first on the search engine: Fox News article headline: Report: Al Qaeda Group Bungled Test of Unconventional Weapon. a small snippet from the article:

I'm a chemist, so what little I know of biology is thru osmosis.
Infected fleas from infected mice in close quarters does the trick for me.
Not probable that they were conducting germ warfare and someone tipped over a beaker. That would require class four enclosures to do the work and would only be done in a university or hospital setting.
beebs, i hate to tell you this, but i could, with a little prep work, brew enough of any bug in my garage to wipe out northern california. it's not that difficult if you don't really care about my health or that of anyone nearby.
it's only those that care about things like NOT DYING that work in Class 4 containments, and maintain their lab areas as Class 100 clean spaces. gotta stop thinking like a westerner, and start thinking like someone that would fly an airplane into the side of a building, or walk into a crowd of school children with a bomb strapped on.
