yay... pop's first big crop of the year is fava beans. and i got some of the first harvested today. so guess what i'm fixing for dinner tomorrow? no, silly, not liver.

They look just like what my grandmother served as "butter beans". What's the difference?

i think that "butterbeans" are lima beans, and they are skinnier, and a bit creamier in texture when cooked. fava beans are a favorite throughout the mediterranian region, and are also a big deal in portuguese cuisine. and yes, they would probably be great with chops. i know one thing about favas that i haven't heard about butterbeans. in the med, there are those that eat so many favas that they end up with some sort of dietary deficiency that is called something like favism. not a good thing to have. but in the quantities i eat, it isn't a problem.
